Burnout coaching for men carrying responsibility

You hold it together at work and at home, and lately it costs more than it used to. This is practical, one-on-one coaching for men who are still delivering but running on empty. I am based in Darwin and work with men across Australia by video. Coaching, not therapy, and I will tell you plainly which one you need.

Who is this for?

Men carrying responsibility. The supervisor who stepped up when the last bloke left. The tradie with a mortgage and a young family, or the team lead everyone brings their problems to while nobody asks about his. There is no entry requirement here beyond a real load and the sense that carrying it the way you have been has started to cost you sleep, your patience or who you are at home.

Most of the men I work with are still performing. That is exactly the problem. Everyone is good right up until the threshold is reached, and by then the options are worse and dearer. This works best while you are still standing.

What do we actually work on?

The patterns that drive burnout. Workload and what you keep saying yes to. Recovery, or the lack of it, between shifts, swings and weekends that disappear into catch-up. Boundaries with work, with family and with your phone. The responsibility load itself, because being the one everyone relies on is a real weight and it can be carried better. And accountability, so decisions made in a session hold on a hard week.

Every session ends with something concrete to do before the next one. You will not get a vision board or a breathing app subscription out of me. Just practical rebuilding, one piece at a time.

Is this coaching or therapy?

It is coaching. We work forward, on patterns and choices, with a man who is functioning but stretched. Coaching does not diagnose and it does not treat depression, anxiety, trauma or any other health condition. If what you are carrying is clinical, I will say so in the first call and point you to the right help. That honesty is the whole reason this works, and it protects both of us.

If things are heavier than burnout. If you are in immediate danger call 000. Lifeline is 13 11 14, MensLine Australia is 1300 78 99 78 and in the NT the Mental Health Line is 1800 682 288, all day, all night. Talking to your GP is a strong first move, and coaching can come later once the clinical side is looked after.

What does it cost?

The entry program is $99. It is a short, focused piece of work aimed at one thing: getting you off the bottom and back to steady. You will know exactly what we are working on before we begin.

The guarantee: $99, or your money back. If you do not get real value from it, you do not pay. You are trying something small and the risk sits with me. If it helps and you want to keep going, we talk about what that looks like. If it does not, we shake hands and you are out nothing.

It starts with a free 30-minute call to work out whether I am the right person for what you are carrying. There is no pitch on that call and nothing you have to decide on the spot.

Do you work with men outside the NT?

Yes. The coaching runs by video anywhere in Australia and I schedule around rosters, including FIFO swings and shift work. Darwin is home base and the Territory shaped this work, but the load men carry is national. If you are in the NT and want a starting point first, the free 4 minute audit gives you an honest number and a map of what is around you.

Why me

I have been the man who did not stop

I started work at 16. School one day, a worksite full of grown men the next, and everyone was always "good". In my first week a workmate took his own life. The following week everyone was back, and everyone was "good". I learned early how men carry things, and what it costs when nobody puts the load down.

Years later I did the same thing myself. I kept turning up and kept delivering, so my body stopped me. Stress put an ulcer in my stomach that could have killed me. Eight straight weeks in hospital, four surgeries, then two years of recovery before I was properly back. That is where this work comes from, and I would not wish the lesson on anyone.

Since then I have spent years in frontline community services and built a free burnout audit that NT workers actually use. I am writing a book about loneliness in Australian men. Suicide is the leading cause of death for Australian men aged 15 to 44. I coach men one on one because a poster about resilience never helped anyone under real load. What helps is someone who has been there and will be honest with you.

Questions

Asked and answered

Coaching. We work on workload, recovery, boundaries and how you carry responsibility. Coaching does not diagnose or treat. Where clinical help is needed, I say so and refer.

Men carrying responsibility at work and at home who are still functioning but running low. You do not need a diagnosis or a crisis to start. Early is exactly when this does the most good.

One on one, by video or phone. Each session ends with something concrete to do before the next one. Nothing runs by the hour and every block has an agreed end.
